Nora Hanen Gannon Buchanan of One Life to Live and General Hospital hasn’t been seen in a Port Charles courtroom in a long time. But her actress, Hillary B. Smith, who played Margo Hughes on As the World Turns for many years, has reason to celebrate.
Happy Birthday, Hillary B. Smith
That’s because she was born on May 25, 1957, in Boston, Massachusetts, making this amazing singer 65 years old today! Smith made her on-screen debut in an episode of Michael Learned’s Nurse after debuting on stage.
A year later, she joined the cast of the sketch comedy/sitcom No Soap, Radio. She then starred on the NBC daytime soap The Doctors (in the contract role of Kit McCormac), as well as episodes of Baby Makes Five and Too Close For Comfort.
Smith took up the role of Margo Montgomery Hughes on As the World Turns from Margaret Colin from 1983 until 1989. She then went to Broadway, where she played Susan Johnston in the big musical The Heidi Chronicles. She first appeared on One Life to Live in 1992. On the show, she portrayed lawyer Nora Hanen Gannon. Her eventual coupling opposite Robert S. Woods, who played Bo Buchanan, was a popular favourite.
Smith also appeared in the Gene Wilder sitcom Something Wilder, which ran between 1994 and 1995. Smith stayed with OLTL till it ended on ABC on January 13, 2012. Smith was a founding member of the cast when it returned for a one-season run on The Online Network.
Smith has garnered one Daytime Emmy Award (in 1994 for Outstanding Lead Actress) and one additional nomination for her performance at OLTL.
Smith’s other film credits include Purple Hearts, Love Potion No. 9, and Palindromes, as well as guest roles on Law & Order: SVU, The Bold and the Beautiful (where she played sex therapist Stacy Barton), and General Hospital (where she reprised the Nora Buchanan part).
